Paiste Black Label Swiss Made 1980 2002 Sound Edge 14” Hi Hats Pre-Owned
Going by the Paiste Wiki, the sequential serial numbers 0076xx and 0076xx denote they are from 1980.
Here is a pair of gently used hi hats, top and bottom! No issues; no problems. No cracks, flea bites, dings, key holes, nada. I took these in on trade for something else and have never really used them. Decent logos (except on top of the top), patina as expected for their age. Never gigged them. I built a Giant Beat setup around them with an 18 and a 20 on a 1970 Gretsch Stop Sign Badge kit. Epic 70’s UK sound.
These 14" hats are the original wavy bottomed hat that paved the way for every other cymbal company to follow suit. What makes them so special? Everything. They have a bright, crisp stick sound that cut in the most musical way. When played slightly open, these cymbals shine. Warm, beautiful sloshy tone that is anything but clangy. Whether played with a light touch, or a heavy-handed stroke you hear everything these hats have to offer. Use these for literally any type of music from Gospel to Grindcore. Every drummer should have a pair of these.
These hats are really great for many genres of music, including CCM, gospel, pop, most rock types (Alex Van Halen, anybody?), certain flavors of country. They hold up well to close and especially distant miking and are excellent both in a studio and on stage. And if you look: these are rarely found used. And there’s a reason for that: people don’t sell them.
If you want to sound distinct from other drummers, here you go; these hats will be at the centerpiece of a very unique sound, different from most of your peers. And these 2002 Sound Edge hi hats are different from the modern ones, too: warm, tempered, “Jeff Porcaro-ed” like only time and groove can accomplish. Way better than a new set. And black labels are highly sought after.
This is a bit of a nuanced sound, these B8 Sound Edges. Lovely. They record like a dream. Zildjian tries to make B8 appear cheap and for beginners, but that’s because 2002 has been a major competitor of theirs since the 1970’s. So they (Zildjian) make crap B8 cymbals and tell everyone B8 is for losers. Tons of players know better.
All Paistes 2002, Signature, Twenty, Masters, Formula 602 are all hand hammered and are never done on an assembly line. Each cymbal is handcrafted by a cymbalsmith. I know because I’ve seen them do it in person at the factory in Switzerland. In fact, when I toured the factory, they were doing 2002s that day.
The Paiste 2002 14" Sound Edge Hi-hat is the original wavy-bottom hat. With its medium top and medium-heavy wavy bottom, this pair delivers a medium-bright, energetic open sound and a pronounced chick sound. The Paiste 2002 series Paiste 2002 series cymbals are crafted using Paiste's proprietary 2002 Alloy. These 2002 cymbals sound full and bright, with strong presence and projection. They have a crisp, focused character and articulately respond to your stick attack. Above all, 2002 series cymbals are eminently musical.

All shipping to be paid by buyer. Shipping is a flat rate. Any overpayment will be refunded. Any underpayment will be expected same: to be added via a PayPal request. I attempt a best guess here and don’t trust eBay’s autoship calculator. I’m not trying to make money off shipping. But I don’t want to lose any either. Additional insurance beyond the basic $100 is not included in shipping price. If FedEx loses or damages this shipment in any way, the buyer assumes all responsibility for the loss and damage and does not hold me, the seller, liable. It stinks. They don’t pay out anyways; none of em do.
