Check out this Beauty! Wow! When I first saw the dimly illuminated photo of this guitar in the Craigslist ad I knew there was something special here. And it is- this is something special.
First of all, it has been years since I have experienced anything resembling a vacation, so after we at the day-job got to a point of semi completion of this massive and both physically and emotionally consuming marine construction job, I put a plea into the boss to take the next weekend and a few days on either side off, and bring the whole fam damily to The Cape to have the kids see Grandma and dip our toes in the sand. Of course I lined up a deal on the trip south to meet a guy for a Les Paul Raw Power outside a Macy's a little south of Boston, but when we arrived I had nothing else in mind then sitting down and resting, on the beach.
So there we are, the kids are playing in the bath tub warm tide pools on the beach I spent hours and hours on during my high school days, I've got a nice warm ale, time on my hands, well, might as well check the listings for some local Gibsons eh? Heheh.
And there it is. So as luck would have it, I messaged the fellow and received a response within the hour. He was on the golf course. I was on the beach. We arranged a meet. For our return trip back north we would just take a little side trip into the city, go up into a fancy high rise office building with awesome views, and check out some Gibsons! Little Fred is gonna love this!
This guy was great! Get this- this computer engineer fellow who is about my age, just sold his company. They are subsequently moving the old office, the office was decorated with high end Gibsons! He told me that whenever they closed a big deal (wow money) he would send one of his guys out to go pick up a Gibson, they had 140 of them. I got the last 5.
So I was there for this Supreme, when we got there, let's just say my eyes bugged right out of my beach blasted face. Those guitars will be coming later. This Supreme is why we're here now.
As it was hung on an office wall for years it needed a deep clean. I polished the gold hardware back to gleaming, frets have been thoroughly polished, the figured ebony fingerboard which is super cool and what initially drew me to this has been triple conditioned with Dunlop 65 oil. Electronics work perfectly with no scratching, sounds amazing and thick and full with a really nice tone. As there are no back plates to preserve the amazing figured maple there is an over sized output jack plate where all the work goes through. And a gorgeous headstock inlay. I don't usually like Supreme's all that much to be honest although the early models with the figured backs are far superior to the modern versions, this one with the naked fretboard and off the hook flame top and back make this an outstanding guitar. This is really something special.
Set up with fresh D'addario NYXL 10-46's, whoever it is that is meant for this guitar- you are going to love this Gibson!
Have a wicked good one,
Nate from Fargarshio's Guitar World.
