Tokai Guitars are handcrafted by skilled artisans in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture.

While major guitar manufacturers focus on efficient production, Tokai Gakki Seizo continues to craft exceptional instruments based on the philosophy that “the hands are connected to the heart.”

Numerous processes—such as embedding the truss rod—are performed by hand, and the company is so committed to quality that it uses animal glue, which is notoriously difficult to work with, for bonding.

Crafted under the watchful eye of the artisan, Tokai guitars mysteriously mold to your hand, delivering a rich tone and responsive feel.

Precisely because these are instruments meant to be cherished for a lifetime, there’s a special allure to guitars that are meticulously handcrafted.

We invite you to pick one up and experience it for yourself.

The model we’ve just received is the LS-101F, a single-cutaway model that it’s no exaggeration to call “the quintessential Tokai instrument!”

It faithfully recreates the popular design while paying meticulous attention to sound and featuring a beautiful finish.

Crafted with decades of experience, these guitars enjoy tremendous popularity and are cherished by players both in Japan and abroad.

Above all, their value for money is overwhelming, offering an excellent balance of quality, appearance, and price.

Not only do they boast superb tonal qualities from the wood, but they’re also exceptionally comfortable to play.

Crafted in an environment meticulously supervised by skilled artisans and professionally set up, they offer a natural and comfortable playing experience.

Since the Tokai single-cut model was first released in 1978, the basic manufacturing methods have remained unchanged.

One of the most representative processes is the use of “animal glue” for bonding.

Many similar models use Titebond for joint bonding, and this is sometimes the case even for models costing over 300,000 yen.

At Tokai Gakki, we use animal glue for all our models, which allows us to maximize the guitar’s inherent resonance.

Furthermore, the machining of the joint areas is performed with exceptional precision.

Because each guitar is carefully machined one by one through a process called “mawashi-hiki,” the neck and body will not easily separate even without adhesive.

Moreover, without this level of precision, bonding with animal glue would be impossible. This finish is a testament to the pride of Japanese artisans.

Guitars of this type have extremely high manufacturing costs; even at long-established domestic workshops, a retail price of 600,000 to 700,000 yen would be considered on the lower end. At present, producing them at that price might be impossible.

Given this context, the fact that Tokai—while championing a “philosophy of inefficient manufacturing” and pouring their soul into every single step of the process—produces these guitars for around 200,000 yen, or even in the 100,000-yen range depending on the model, could even be called a price revolution.

The wood specifications are classic: a mahogany body and neck, a maple top, and a rosewood fingerboard.

It embodies the very icon of the electric guitar that many people envision and possesses a universal appeal that is widely loved.

Even within this classic design, Tokai’s signature beautiful coloration and striking grain patterns catch the eye.

This model features the Honey Burst finish. Along with Lemon Drop, it’s extremely popular, so it rarely makes it onto store shelves.

Thanks to its thick body—including the archtop-shaped maple top—it has substantial weight, which lowers the sound’s center of gravity and firmly supports the overall band sound.

In today’s music scene, there are many opportunities to create a relatively bright and sparkling sound, but if your bandmate’s guitar has that kind of tone, this guitar can fully compensate for any missing frequency ranges.

The neck offers a solid grip; while it has a certain thickness, it strangely fits the hand well and features a shape that’s very easy to play.

As is typical of single-cutaway models, playing in the higher frets requires some getting used to, but even so, there are nuances that can only be achieved with this style.

High-quality parts are used throughout. GOTOH components from around the world are employed for the tuners and bridge area, ensuring high precision.

Previously, the model number corresponded to the list price, but since the current model number was introduced, the capacitor has been changed to an Orange Drop.

There have also been changes to the pickups; while it previously featured the overseas-made PAF-Vintage MK2S, it has now been standardized to the PAF-Vintage MK2, which is found on higher-end models.

Although the MK2S was an excellent pickup with a very similar sound character, the new model offers even greater sonic resolution.

The sound is exceptionally clear and full-bodied, and even in the mix position, it resonates brilliantly without getting muddled.

It handles a wide range of styles, from beautiful arpeggios and chord playing to high-gain hard rock sounds.

Tokai Gakki—truly a source of pride for Japan—offers a high level of craftsmanship and value for money made possible by its long history.

Please take this opportunity to purchase one.
