c. 1974 RICKENBACKER 4001 MAPLEGLO BASS — HEAVILY MODIFIED — ZZ1034 REPLACEMENT JACKPLATE
Price: $2,999.99
Condition: Good
Vintage Rickenbacker Model 4001 bass in a natural/Mapleglo finish, made in the USA.
Based on the visible construction and period hardware features, this bass is best dated to circa 1974, most likely mid-to-late 1974. The exact original production date cannot be confirmed because the original production-date jackplate is no longer present.
SERIAL / JACKPLATE NOTE
The currently installed Rickenbacker output-jack plate is stamped ZZ1034. This is a replacement/special-sequence jackplate rather than the instrument's original factory production-date serial plate, so ZZ1034 should not be interpreted as the bass's original date code.
The circa-1974 dating is based on the combination of period features visible on the instrument, including the inset triangle fingerboard inlays, plain body binding, early neck-pickup placement, and period-style open-back tuners with small metal bushings. Exact year remains unconfirmed.

CONDITION
Good vintage condition with substantial cosmetic wear consistent with age, use, and modification. The body, neck, hardware, pickguard, and finish show scratches, marks, dings, finish wear, oxidation, and other age-related wear. There is significant finish loss/wear visible on the rear of the body. Please review all photos closely, as they are part of the condition description.
FUNCTION
Fully tested and functioning properly. The bass is playable and is currently fitted with flatwound strings.
This is a distinctive, player-grade vintage Rickenbacker 4001 with extensive period-of-use modifications and a strong circa-1974 feature profile. It should be evaluated as a heavily modified vintage instrument rather than as an original collector-grade example.
