Up for sale is an incredibly rare, piece of vintage rock history: an all-original* 1967 Sunn Sonic I tube amplifier head in pristine cosmetic and perfect functional condition.For the uninitiated, Sunn labeled their amplifier heads based on the cabinet they were sold with. The Sonic I features the exact same legendary 60-watt tube circuit, dual Dynaco transformers, and massive low-end headroom as the famous Sunn 200S, but was badged as a Sonic I because it originally shipped with a single 15" JBL cabinet. Because the 2x15 packages were more common, finding a genuine, clean Sonic I head today is a true rarity for collectors.This specific amplifier is an exceptional "transitional" factory anomaly from Sunn's early days in Oregon. It features the signature late-1960s lowercase "sunn O)))" front faceplate layout with molded plastic rocker switches (Orange LO Boost, White HI Boost). However, the metal chassis frame is a factory-leftover early piece featuring the highly coveted 1965-era stamped "Smiling Sun" logo on the back, marked with an ultra-early low 4-digit serial number (#2198).
