This is a 1972 Gibson SG-100 that has a pretty cool history. It belonged to my aunt and had been sitting in her basement since around 1978. As far as I know, it hadn’t been played in more than 40 years.

When I got it, I wanted to get it back into good playing condition without messing with the character of an original 50+ year-old Gibson. (I’m not a Gibson guy, but it does play very well) I had it professionally set up and had all of the electronics checked over. I also replaced the bridge with genuine Gibson parts.

(Im including the bridge that was on it)

It definitely has some bumps, scratches and wear, but nothing has been done to try to hide that. It’s an old guitar and looks like one. The finish has aged beautifully and you can still see the wood grain through it.

The coolest thing about this guitar to me is simply where it came from. It wasn’t passed around between collectors or hanging in guitar shops for decades. It was put away in my aunt’s basement around 1980 and basically stayed there until now.

It’s now set up, working properly and ready to be played again.

If you’re looking for a super-clean museum piece, this probably isn’t it. But if you like old Gibsons with some character and an actual story behind them, this is a really cool survivor.
