There are sounds you know even if you don't know you know it. It's all over early lo-fi demos and a thousand bedroom four-track tapes from 1984. It's the sound of a small Casio doing its absolute best, and the MT-100 is one of the finest small Casios ever to do it.
Point at anything on this panel and there's something worth your time. A five-band graphic EQ, which no keyboard in this class had any business carrying. It lets you carve the tones into something bigger and stranger than the price tag ever suggested. Twelve rhythms including beguine and bossa nova, because Casio assumed you might need a beguine beat, and honestly they weren't wrong. Who really knows what beguine even is? Well it doesn’t matter because this also has Casio Chord for one-finger accompaniment and a fill button that's been keeping the beat fresh for four decades.
The lo-fi crowd figured Casios out years ago. Run it through a little tape saturation plugin and reverb and the MT-100 stops being a toy and starts being a warm, wobbly vibe, and completely unbothered by trends.
This one's in been around the block and looks like it. No power adapter included, but it takes batteries and a standard barrel-type supply that's easy to find, and the battery compartment means you can play it on a porch of someone you love, which you should.
Cheap keyboards get thrown out. The good ones get found again. The great ones are looking for a new home. This one's been looking for you.
