Pre-CBS Fender Princeton Combo.

1964 Rare Transitional 'Tuxedo' Princeton, meaning black faceplate and tolex as opposed to Rough Brown tolex and faceplate, cream knobs instead of brown— but same 6G2 Brownface Princeton Circuit internally.

These were among the very first amplifiers Fender offered Black Tolex on and are historically significant as first examples of the Blackface era coming along.

Cosmetically in remarkable shape, tolex shines and has very little if any marks. No tears. 

All original where it counts— original transformers dating to '64, internal chassis & cab stamps '64. As with all of my Pre-CBS Fenders I have owned, it's been conservatively serviced, only as needed, with the goal of maintaining as much originality as possible but still be a fully functional quiet healthy running amp; the circuit retains nearly all of the crucial Ajax blue-molded capacitors.

Amp has been run regularly on the Brown Box at correct voltages; runs healthy, truly super quiet in idle and sounds just as a 6G2 should. Super badass chewy tweedy sound and plenty of beautiful cleans on Input 2. Addicting amp to play through. Also takes pedals with ease.

Speaker has been changed for a 12-inch Celestion Creamback— that’s a pretty common mod with these and the only explanation this amp has to give for itself. Otherwise, it is the original baffle and cloth. Maybe think of this as a true vintage-version Chris Stapleton Brownie, or maybe it's something you've already been seeking— as the 12” speaker is a common change made with these amps. 

I've tried a few other 12's in this guy, a Jensen Alnico, boutique offerings like Jupiter.. but always came back to this Creamback the amp has lived with for awhile. Really is the best sounding speaker out of the lot for this amp, IMO.

Increased frequency response as a result of the 12” opposed to the 10” and a night and day difference for single coils; hotter pickups like humbuckers you will notice far less of a difference between a 10“ and 12“ speaker in these circuits. 

Will miss this one as it has been part of my personal collection of vintage Pre-CBS Fenders. You are getting this amp from a Fender collector who knows how these old amps should sound, not merely a dealer trying to move it on for top dollar. These Brownie Princetons— Killer amps with all of that mid-pushed raw & chewy Tweed breakup that makes these 6G2's so special. 

If you follow Tom Bukovac’s Homeskoolin channel… this amp definitely has the “doink”… think Motown, round and chewy soulful sounds. It also rocks when you need it with pedals… phenomenal amps.. someone is getting a great one!

PS.. for you vintage Fender nuts.. you may already know that these Tuxedo Princetons were known to have been shipped by Leo with 250k pots on the volume control as opposed to the 1Meg pot usually seen on these Brown Princetons. This amp is no exception, having the rare 250K pot. The result of the 250k pot is a little darker and smokier sound.. it stays cleaner longer on the dial. Having said that.. I’m throwing in a 1Meg pot with this amp in case you want to go to that spec. You would get breakup a little earlier, and it would also be a little brighter earlier on the tone control. I never changed it out because I think the 250k pot is a neat and rare little surprise of these Tuxedo amps.
