Two 555 theremins on one stripboard that only talk to each other through light. The slow one flashes an LED sealed against a photocell, and that cell is the timing resistor of the fast one, so the fast one chirps at whatever rate the slow one ticks. That is my Opto Duet, and this box adds two knobs the layout does not have: Tempo on the slow engine, so you can set how fast it ticks without hunting for the right light, and Tone on the voice, so the pitch has a home position before the photocells move it.

Two photocells sit out on the face for your hands, one for each half. Wave at them, cup them, shine a phone light on them. Everything you do to the light does something to the sound. The clear dome in the middle is the coupling LED, out where you can watch it work.

Purple hammertone 125B lying flat, labels in pastel lettering. Quarter-inch output, 9V DC jack and the power toggle along the top edge. No speaker inside.

The board is a free guide on messopedals.com, drawing, parts list and drill template for this box included. Built September 2026, one of a kind. Free shipping.
