For sale is a beautiful sounding Vintage Melcor AML-27 mic pre. It has been racked for 500 series format by SVT audio. During the process it received a full recap and service. This listing is for one module only.
The history and sound: If you aren't familiar, these preamps were designed by Saul Walker. in the late 60's Melcor decided to focus more on military contracts, and Saul along with Don Richter, started API based on these Melcor designs. This is the predecessor to the famous API 312 preamp. These pros have tons of mojo thanks to the original Melcor input AND output transformer, and of course, the original 1731 opamp. The sound is extremely similar to a 312, but has a little more harmonic richness in the midrange. Perfect for acoustic instruments, electric guitar, snare, vocal. I mean they sound good on honestly everything.
This item is in good working condition, but due to the nature of a 60+ year old vintage piece of equipment it is sold in as is condition
