You are purchasing a Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion effect pedal for guitar (or bass!)
Despite being associated with some pretty famous musicians (Fruciante, Cobain, etc) I still can't help but think the DS-2 is still a little bit 'slept on' (maybe I'm wrong).
The DS-2 is not simply a DS-1 with a Turbo mode, it is a distinct circuit (transistors for the DS-2 vs the opamp DS-1) that has a very different character. The DS-2 is more aggressive and edgy: a snarling, high sustain distortion. The Turbo mode doubles down on the crazy mids and is obviously intended be a cut-through lead tone; boy, does it do that!
This particular example was made in April of 1996, and has the Germanium clipping diodes, as opposed to the later Silicon ones. I mention this because I have noticed (as have many), that Ge components are more sensitive to things like temperature and this can lead to some variance in tone from session to session. I personally like stuff like this because it makes the pedal seem 'alive' to me; like it has moods. Perhaps I am weird...
The pedal itself is in great condition for a 30 year old pedal! It functions perfectly, and comes with the original box and manual.
I am selling this and other pedals as part of an effort to clear out all this gear that I have no time to play these days! Thank you for your interest.
