Ludwig 20” Classic Bass Drum Shell 1965 - White Marine Pearl

Ludwig 14“ x 20” Classic/Downbeat Bass Drum Shell, with serial #127342 stamped into the brass keystone badge. Below the badge, 4 small pin holes give claim to the fairly common practice back in the day of where the original store that sold the drum would put their badge. It has long since been removed.
It originally came with the rail consolette wing tom mount, and its holes are still present, having never been filled in. However, at some point in its history, a Ludwig center-post tom mount was installed. Then, at some point in time after, as evidenced in the pics, that mount was removed, and efforts were made to camouflage the alteration. Holes were filled and smoothed, Ludwig style WMP wrap cut and glued, and white interior paint to match applied. Overall, I would say the repair was done extremely well...AND ITS SOLID!
It is evident that care and precision was taken in matching up the pattern markings in the wrap pieces to the original wrap. The interior paint is very well matched in color, as well, but make no mistake, the repair, though solidly done, is visible. You have to admire the effort made to return the drum to its original condition. The red-inked date stamp is faded, but visible enough that 1965 is the year. The month, I’m not so sure about. Perhaps it reads APR…?
Some seam separation in both bearing edges are present, but they are smooth. Elmer’s and some clamps will provide an easy fix. The wrap seam at the bottom has lifted a bit on the outer most edge, but once again, no biggie….and the wrap is super tight…and might I add, stiff at 61 years old!
It’s fair to say the hard part is done. The drum is round and practically ready to assemble.
