Until 2021 German guitar makers Willi Henkes and Rudi Blazer crafted unique acoustic guitars in their small high-end workshop. For some musicians, these are among the finest acoustic guitars ever produced! We are therefore extremely pleased to offer you today an extremely rare Blazer & Henkes D-18 Phoenix 1937 Shadetop Model Flat Top with serial number 562. A stunning sunburst top made of soundmighty Alpine moon spruce with a magnificent color gradient, natural back and sides made of mahogany and a mahogany neck with an ebony fingerboard. It’s immediately clear why Blazer & Henkes instruments are considered the pinnacle of the modern interpretation of classic pre-war vintage flat-top guitars. A full-bodied sound across the entire frequency range with fantastic clarity. Beautifully warm and extremely assertive thanks to its outstanding projection. The bass is wonderfully tight and offers great presence in the low end, which blends seamlessly with the overall sound as the sparkling highs also ring out rich and full. Awesome sustain, superb overtones! ...and the C-shaped neck profile feels extremely comfortable in the hand, making you want to glide your fingers across the deep, dark fretboard with joy. As Rudolph Blazer himself explained: “Our specialty is building guitars the way they did in the ’30s, right? That’s why we use hide glue. We use a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. We use very lightweight wood. As a result, (the guitars) look almost exactly like they did in the 1930s.” Of course a gem like this was played often and accordingly the D-18 shows a few slight signs of wear. Otherwise it’s in top condition.
