One of the finest compressors on Earth. Adjustability like no other compressor I've used. SPL's use of 120 V rails for the concomitant solid-state circuitry, including proprietary op-amps, results in the quietest tube compressor I've ever encountered. (Less than -110db vs -90 for the Manley Variable Mu).
According to Tapo Op Magazine, "Utterly sublime on vocals... enormous flexibility... more of a high-fidelity piece than not... It has a smooth, yet flexible handle on fast transients. It controls bass with dimension and impact. And it can handle any type of music I put through it.
IRON is in the same league as classic mastering compressors. When I first saw the unit at the New York AES Convention, I had my own auditioning material and headphones with me. I compared the IRON to some household names and found it could do what the others do in terms of dynamics control, but with more adjustability and a lower noise floor."
There are some incredibly light scratches in the finish over the red metal that you can't even see unless you hold a bright light just above the unit and look very closely and I never even saw them until I magnified the photos I took.
Streamlining and upgrading my hybrid studio so it's for sale and looking for a good home. Hard choice to let it go, but I need the dough.
