I have a 2023 Knaggs Keya J here with its industry best hard shell case and factory paperwork. This is a light guitar weighing 6 lb 15.5 oz.
Conditionally, this guitar has some average playwear that I will describe for you.
The body top shows a line shaped indentation above the bridge, about 2 to 3 mm in size. There's a smaller, more superficial one near the output jack that's about 1 mm in size. There's a light sheen of guitar pick strumming on the plastic pickguard. Any similar superficial swirling will be absolutely minimal on the body itself. I did not find any accumulated patterns or buildup of any soft swirling on this guitar.
The body sides and edges show one finish ding on the lower body edge near the strap button, about 2 to 3 mm in size. That's around one. I found a handful more micro ones that are more like a fraction of a millimeter. Just tiny little marks. Beyond that, there's just faint traces of use. There's not an accumulation of any all over playwear. The gloss finish still looks really crisp and lustrous throughout on this guitar.
The body back shows one chip in the finish near the back plate. That's about 3 to 4 mm in size. There's one small scratch about 3/4 of an inch that should be visible in the pictures. Beyond that, it's going to be light surface playwear scattered here and there. There's nothing I would constitute as buckle rash or worming. I didn't find any heavy pattern playwear. But there is scattered light superficial playwear that is sort of about the same intensity as guitar pick strumming, but none of it creates an all over sheen. Just a scattering of that, with overall still a decent appearance back here as the pictures portray.
The neck shows no notable marks. I see just superficial signs of use. No chips or dings. The frets are tall and full, showing no pitting or divots. The setup plays fantastic. This is the only brand I can say I have never had a specimen that played bad. Every single Knaggs guitar I've ever had has played next level fantastic, which is a high compliment to this company. The original electronics are working like they should, and the hard shell case is in excellent condition.
I will rate this one an 8.6/10 and grade it as very good. Sort of in the middle of very good. I did find, as noted, a couple dings and some smaller micro marks here and there. But no accumulation of heavy playwear, and no fading to that lustrous high gloss finish or the hardware. The neck, I would say, is in excellent condition throughout, both cosmetically and structurally.
The overall look and aesthetic of the guitar is very nice. The pictures do it justice. This one is a nice value point to get a Knaggs guitar. It's one of the more affordable models, but has the same quality and workmanship and beautiful tone I have found compared to some of the more ultra expensive models.
Knaggs is an American boutique builder with some similarities and commonalities to PRS. Knaggs was of course a head designer working for Paul Reed Smith that eventually ventured out on his own.
The finish work, and quality and pre-conditioning of the wood is the among the best i have ever seen. I am seeing perfectly rolled fret edges. A very stable/perfect neck. And of course as you would hope for. The tone just has that something extra, those layers of subtle character and richness that you don't ever hear in anything but a high end guitar. This one has that in spades.
The Keya J Model is somewhat reminiscent of something between a Les Paul Double cut special and a PRS Custom. It has the warm, midrange sweetness that LP Special's and SG's have. But with the refinement of a PRS guitar. It sounds remarkably big, warm, and still with excellent clarity and cut. Truly an upper echelon tone.
Note that this listing may come down at anytime as I am a multi-platform seller and do sell locally and on my own Site as well in an effort to keep sales fluid. State sales tax will be charged on Reverb sales when applicable, so factor that in to your purchase.
I will immaculately pack it as well. I use quality shipping boxes, ample tape on all sides. And sufficient bubble wrap filler and bracing inside the box. And always Marked/denoted as fragile. I generally detune guitars 1/2 half step prior to shipment as well if needed.
Thank you for reading and considering!
