NUGEN Halo Upmix - Stereo to 5.1 and 7.1 Surround Upmixer (Card)

Halo Upmix turns stereo material into surround. It does it by analysing the source in real time, identifying the locational cues already present in the recording, and extending the panorama outward from them. There is no artificial reverb, chorus or delay added anywhere in the process, which is what separates it from the widening tricks that leave a mix sounding hollow or phasey.

It covers the formats delivery actually asks for: LCR, 3.1, 4.0, 4.1, 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, 6.1, 7.0 and 7.1. Archive restoration, television, and full feature film work all sit inside that range, and the same plug-in handles all of it.

The centre channel is where upmixing usually goes wrong, and it is where Halo puts its most specific tool. Centre channel management is switchable, and it includes neural network based dialog extraction that isolates vocal content so dialogue can be treated separately from everything else landing in the centre. For broadcast and post that is the difference between a usable upmix and one that has to be redone by hand.

The 'Exact' downmix mode addresses the other half of the problem. You can audition the downmix in place and confirm that the surround version folds back down to something faithful to the original stereo, so an upmix delivered for one format does not fall apart when a viewer hears it in another.
