This banjo is a wonderfully successful continuation of the traditional instrument-making tradition of the American banjo makers Bacon & Day. However, in his replica of a Silverbell banjo, the Hamburg-based instrument maker Karsten Schnoor incorporated a no-hole archtop tone ring, which gives the instrument a significantly crisper and more powerful sound compared to the old originals. The banjo is therefore also ideal for Irish traditional music, though it is currently strung in CGDA.
Length 86 cm, scale length 58.5 cm, nut width 30 mm
Inside the body is an old handwritten label from the former Övelgönne workshop bearing the serial number 295. The instrument’s features include planetary tuners, an Oettinger tailpiece, a Richelieu bridge, and a beautiful, heavy Bacon-style resonator.
The banjo is set up and ready to play and sounds wonderful! There are superficial signs of age and wear, such as a few scratches in the finish or minor scuffs. There are some cracks in the finish on the underside of the Multiply rim.
A modern banjo case for transport can be purchased upon request.
