Gibson Prototype Custom Shop Korina Explorer 1993 - Natural

This guitar is very special. It is confirmed as the very first Korina Explorer shipped by the custom shop when they started reissue production of the Korina Flying V and Korina Explorer in 1993. The story of this guitar is spectacular. The first few prototypes of the custom shop Korina Explorers that were released have a documented way of confirming they were truly one of the first few true prototypes. Before production fully started, Gibson decided they wanted to slightly alter where the bass side tune-o-matic screw position was. As a result, under the bass side thumb wheel of the tune-o-matic, if you unscrew that thumb wheel and take it off, you will find proof of this in the form of a tiny approximately 1/8” piece of Korina the size of the tune-o-matic screw. This guitar has that as well as documented proof of this factory detail. So cool!!! The Flying Vs were released with odd serial numbers 9 1001, 9 1003 etc. The explorers were released with even serial numbers 9 1002, 9 1004 etc. This guitar was the first one released with serial number 9 1002. It was finished in late 1991 and was finally officially shipped in 1993 with the launch of the custom shop. Here is your chance to not only own an absolutely killer guitar, but a real piece of Gibson history that will only increase in value as the years go passing by. It weighs 8.6 pounds. The neck caliper measurements are 0.877” at first fret, 0.979” at 12th fret. The neck pickup reads 8.28 ohms and the bridge pickup reads 8.30 ohms. This thing SCREAMS!!!! It is now 33 years old and is virtually mint. It has been kept in a humidified collection for the last 3 decades. No breaks, mods or changes of any kind. It was only taken out to play occasionally and maintain it’s impeccable condition. It will ship with it’s OHSC, the paperwork it shipped from the factory with (including the “red card” Gibson paperwork), original custom shop hang tag and signed letter confirming all of the above information.
