Description

The Donner Essential B1 is an analog bass synthesizer and sequencer built as a tribute to the classic acid bassline sound of the Roland TB-303. At its core is a purely analog signal path — a single VCO with switchable saw and square waveforms, a resonant low-pass VCF, and a VCA — delivering deep, authentic bass tones with real analog character, not emulation.

The B1 pairs that classic engine with a modern, approachable workflow. Its step sequencer comes loaded with 128 factory presets across a range of styles, plus 128 user-programmable slots for saving your own patterns. Firmware v1.1.0 adds Song Mode, letting you chain up to 16 patterns together to build longer, more complex musical phrases. An 8-mode arpeggiator with hold function rounds out the creative toolkit for live playing or studio ideation.

Playability was clearly a priority in the B1's design — its haptic silicone pads light up with dynamic color-changing backlights to indicate active notes and patterns, making it easy to play basslines live or program ideas on the fly. The interface itself won a 2022 Red Dot Design Award for making a traditionally complex synth workflow feel simple and intuitive, whether you're new to electronic music or a seasoned producer.

Connectivity is well thought out for both studio and live use, with full-size MIDI In/Out, USB-C for direct DAW integration, plus Aux In and Sync I/O for linking with other gear.
