This is an odd one. At one point in its life it was a 450/12 -- the post holes and string channels have been filled to convert it to a six. Based upon the body thickness and the contours at the sides, I believe it to be late sixties/early seventies. Tough to say because the guitar was stripped of its finish at some point. It is a Rick though; it has the double truss rod.
As far as I can tell, the only original parts of the guitar are the neck/body and the strap bolts. I have added a vintage correct trussed cover from a 400-series twelve. (The truss rod pictured in the first two photos appears to be off a bass -- it's too big. The closeups of the headstock show the truss rod cover currently on the guita.)
The pick guard is homemade and there is a single Rickenbacker High Gain in the bridge position. The switch is just a kill switch, effectively.
The tuners are non-original open-back strip tuners but, frankly, they work just great! The bridge is the craziest part. It's a chopped Tele bridge sitting on a block of wood to raise it to the correct height. It IS a big improvement over the bridge that was stock on these -- a floating semi-compensated bar of pot metal floating above that rectangular swimming pool with its two ends resting on the pick guard. So, if all of that sounds janky AF, I assure you, tuning on this guitar is incredibly stable and the action is dialed in beautifully.
One could bring this back to near spec with a bunch of parts from Winfield Vintage and a patient and competent luthier.
Or, one could leave it just as it is. This little guitar is a punk rock beast.
This was my main gigging guitar for about a year, but I've started using a 330. I struggle to let it go, but I have to thin the herd.
Ships in an old Ibanez gig bag which fits it perfectly.
Thanks for looking!
