Prominy SR5 Rock Bass 2 Bass Guitar Virtual Instrument Kontakt (Activation Card)

SR5 Rock Bass 2 is Prominy's deep-sampled recreation of a Music Man StingRay 5, the five string that has anchored more rock and session recordings than almost any other electric bass. The library runs to roughly 21,700 samples and over 26 GB, recorded so that the fifth string is a real low B rather than a pitch-shifted approximation.

The engine is Prominy's SPI, the Super Performance Instrument. Instead of asking you to draw every articulation in by hand, SPI reads the performance as you play it and picks the right sample in real time. Legato slides, hammer-ons and pull-offs come from genuine recorded performances rather than from a synthesised transition, which is what stops fast lines sounding like a keyboard part. Auto Stroke Detection works out beat position and stroke direction on its own.

The detail work is where the library earns its size. Natural harmonics are sampled on every fret of every string. There is heavy buzz sustain for deliberate string rattle, heavy hammer-on samples that keep the metallic bite, and picking noise captured at every fret position rather than one noise sample moved around. Real down-tuned samples reach four semitones below standard, so a low G is a recording and not a transpose. The Fretboard Monitor shows which string and fret is sounding, so parts can be voiced the way a bassist would actually play them.

Everything downstream is built in too. Chord presets cover the common shapes, a User Chord Editor handles anything they miss, and the Strum Key and Arpeggio Key settings are configurable. Stomp effects and a bass amplifier simulator are included, and the direct bass signal is available if you would rather use your own chain.
