Newly completed, hand wired AB763 Super Reverb clone (40 to 50 watts) in head format. Built with quality parts/components such as, Weber PT, NOS Classic Tone OT with 8 ohm speaker output for maximum compatibility. Mojotone Choke, Pacific Magnetics Red series reverb driver. Gavitt cloth covered wire (20awg solid) .093”Vishay/Sozo/Panasonic coupling and tone caps, Vishay 1kv ceramic caps, 1 watt carbon film/metal oxide plate resistors, Alpha full sized 3/8" pots, Carling switches, Belton tube sockets, Switchcraft input, output and RCA jacks, MOD filter caps, an LED " tremolo roach" in place of neon roach for dead quiet operation, MOD 2 spring long decay reverb tank, genuine Fender "witch hat" knobs to name a few. The amp is true to the original schematic, save for a few modern refinements for reliability and lowest possible hum/noise. I added a ntc thermistor to the primary to limit inrush current, added safety diodes to the rectifier socket to protect the gz34 from hot switching flashover, I added second stage of filtering to the bias supply, I added an additional filter cap to the power supply just for the reverb node/circuit. This lowered the hum significantly. I also reduced the voltage to the reverb node down to about 360-370v, and adjusted the cathode resistor accordingly. This allows more current to drive the input of the spring reverb tank, resulting in better depth and detail in the reverb tone. Finally, I added a on/off switch for the negative feedback in place of the polarity/ground switch on the back plate. The Super Reverb AB763 is unique from the other AB763 amps in that it has less negative feedback due to it 2 ohm OT secondary (about 41% less) compared to the other 2x6L6 amps giving it a bit more attitude and bite at volume, it has a smaller midrange cap (.022 uf) in the tone stack, reducing the mid scoop and shifting the center frequency just slightly compared to it kin. These small differences add up to a much more pleasing overdrive tone than its siblings, IMO. Head shell is 1" solid pine, back and baffle are 1/2" birch ply, legit Fender handle and corner guards, and stainless steel hardware/screws/fasteners. Total weight is around 35 pounds and is 26" x 8'" x 9.5". JJ 6L6GC matched pair, JJ GZ34 rectifier, 2 NOS McIntosh 12at7's, Tung Sol 12ax7 in V2 and jj 12ax7's everywhere else. I included a sound clip below, recorded on my phone. Les Paul Traditional w' Suhr Thornbucker PAF going straight in, no effects. Going out to my 2x12 with Jupiter 12" 50w speakers. 1 ceramic and 1 alnico. Thanks for looking and feel free to ask any questions. Thanks!!
