This guitar is a premium 2022 Gibson Custom Shop Historic Reissue built in Nashville, Tennessee, specifically replicating a transitional late-1966 to 1967 Gibson ES-335TD. While the 6-digit serial number 131555 originally dates back to 1963 in Gibson's vintage logs, the modern Nashville Custom Shop utilizes historically accurate stamp styles. The blend of physical attributes you described confirms a meticulous replication of Gibson’s late-1960s transition era.

Detailed Analysis of the Specifications:

• "Custom" Typed on Orange Label: Modern Nashville Custom Shop hollowbody and semi-hollow instruments utilize an orange oval label inside the bass f-hole. Having "Custom" explicitly typed or stamped onto it confirms its origin from the Gibson Custom Shop high-end line.
• Witch Hat Gold Knobs: This is the most crucial piece of evidence for the target year. Original Gibson amp-style "witch hat" knobs replaced the earlier reflector top-hats in late 1966.
• No Volute: The absence of a volute (the structural reinforcement bump on the back of the neck near the headstock) ensures this neck follows pre-1970 specifications. Gibson added volutes in 1970, so its absence confirms a strict mid-60s vintage reissue blueprint.

The story goes that Grandpa down in Mississippi was a local semi-professional guitar player getting quite old, decided to fill his bucket list towards the end by binge purchasing all the guitars and amplifiers he ever wanted. His family was quite surprised that he had so many, and some of them he never even really got to play very much. Like this ES-335.

When the family went south from Detroit here for the funeral and clearing out his house and belongings, they only had so much room in their vehicles. No one in the family was a musician and they not knowing, left behind many things like guitar cases, paperwork, and other instruments, etc. they could not fit. Hence, the 6-7 guitars they brought my shop had no cases or certificates.

This fine ES-335-tD Custom Shop looks new but has a few minor flaws besides very light pickguard surface light scratching there are a scratch or two on the back of the neck and a couple surface rashes in the finish where the guitar hung on a guitar rack. Lastly 1 of the PAF decals fell apart but 1/2 of it still in tact. The frets look new and I seasoned the rosewood fretboard installing a fresh set of Ernie Ball .10-.46 strings. So close to being mint. Plays and sounds simply superb1

Comes with a new 335 hard deluxe case as pictured.

I know 335's quite well after over 50 years of selling them but the transitional components on this version I figured out by research was a special ordered Premium Custom Shop model. The CTS pots read 1372219 or the 19th. week of 2022.

Unique to say the least.

Gordy's Music has become a Detroit institution! Our shop was used as a filming location for a few films like "Miracle in Motor City" a Christmas movie on Lifetime (featuring Smoky Robinson). We've supplied gear for movies including "Bill & Ted Face The Music" with Keanu Reeves. We've got decades of celebrity customers, including recent visits from Beck, Eric Johnson, and we recently sold Billy Joel's bassist a cool Gibson SG he is in love with. One day a while back Andre 3000 and his group stopped in to browse as they were playing Masonic Temple that night and right after that we sold an old oil can Morley Wah Vibrato pedal to Credence Clearwater Revival's thee John Fogerty!

We are having and have had a lot of fun here at Gordy's Music! I was just remembering about 35 years ago a tour bus pulled up to our little shop, and who rolls right in and hangs out for an hour? Lenny Kravitz and his entire group, right about the same time I was selling many guitars to and chauffeuring around Dee Dee Ramone who had an apartment a block down from my house.
