Alesis AM51 Large-Diaphragm FET Condenser Microphone plus Shock Mount
Up for sale: an Alesis AM51 cardioid FET condenser microphone — one of the first mics released by GT Electronics, the analog division formed when Alesis acquired Groove Tubes.
The AM51 features a ~33mm, K67-derived large-diaphragm capsule with a thin (3-micron), gold-evaporated mylar diaphragm and a gold-plated resonator disk attached to smooth out and extend the high-frequency response. It's paired with a Class A JFET circuit and output transformer for a clean, transparent signal path with low distortion. Onboard switches independently engage a -10dB pad and a 75Hz high-pass filter (12dB/octave), giving you flexibility right on the mic body. Requires standard 48V phantom power.
Sonically, the AM51 is known for a smooth, slightly open top end and a solid, workhorse character — a favorite for vocals, especially when a "smoother" alternative to brighter, harsher mics is needed. Solid metal construction gives it a substantial, professional feel.
Condition: Good condition for a 25 year old microphone, a few minor scuffs. Note the pictures.
