Vintage Vox Kensington Bass V124 / V1241 – 1960s – 22-Watt Bass Amplifier

Here’s a rare opportunity to own a genuine piece of 1960s Vox history — the Vox Kensington Bass, model V124/V1241.

The Kensington Bass was introduced in late 1967 and first appeared in the 1968 Vox “The Sound That Travels With The Stars” catalog. Designed as a compact bass amplifier, the Kensington delivered 22 watts RMS / 45 watts peak through a single 15" 4-ohm Jensen/Vox speaker.

The Kensington featured a straightforward control layout designed specifically for bass, with Volume and Tone-X controls, dual 1/4" inputs, power switch, indicator lamp, and line-reverse switch. The Tone-X circuit replaced a conventional bass/treble arrangement with a sweepable EQ control offering approximately a 6 dB boost from roughly 50 Hz to 300 Hz.

One of the Kensington's most distinctive features is its original U-shaped chrome-plated roller stand, with two rear wheels that allow the amplifier to be tilted back and rolled for easier transportation.

Features

  • Output: 22 watts RMS / 45 watts peak
  • Speaker: One Jensen/Vox 15" 4-ohm speaker
  • Inputs: Two 1/4" inputs
  • Controls: Volume and Tone-X
  • Other controls: Power switch, indicator lamp, and line-reverse switch
  • Dimensions: approximately 25.5" H × 21" W × 10.5" D
  • Accessories: Cover and chrome roller stand

The Kensington Bass originally retailed for approximately $260 in 1968, placing it among Vox's serious professional bass amplification offerings of the era.

This example presents a fantastic opportunity for the vintage Vox collector, recording studio, bass player, or British Invasion enthusiast looking for something considerably less common than the typical vintage Vox guitar amp.

Classic late-'60s Vox styling, genuine vintage character and a very unusual piece of amplification history.

Please review all photos carefully for condition and originality. As with any vintage amplifier, we recommend appropriate inspection/service before extended use if its recent service history is unknown.
