Buffet Crampon Super Dynaction Alto Sax (1971, S/N 17741)
This is a lightly-played, original-lacquer vintage professional saxophone that is in very good condition. (It’s condition would be Excellent except for the area at the bottom of the bell that is worn, as shown in the pictures.)
A little background on the care this has received:
When my father hit his mid-60s, out of the blue, he decided to learn the saxophone so he could play in church. He bought this sax used in the mid-1990s. I had it tuned up for him at Flying Squirrel Music (Raleigh, NC) a couple years before he passed in 2023 so he could play at his retirement home.
Shortly before posting it here for sale, I took it back into the same shop to see what repairs might be necessary before selling it. They examined it and said:
- It didn’t need any repairs.
- The sax is in very good condition.
- It has not been dropped.
- The pads are in very good shape.
- Based on the overall condition, lacquer, etc. it has been lightly played – which fits with how infrequently my father played it.
When they tested the playability, the tone was fabulous – beautifully rich and deep, which is a hallmark of Buffet Crampon saxophones. (As an aside, they also said that the mouthpiece and end cap might possibly be the originals.)
