Vintage EAG/Telefunken channel strip+VIDEO

I purchased this a few months back and absolutely love it. I wish I could keep it but the little studio I was building out is closing. This has this nice open glowing quality on vocals and the Inductor EQ is phenomenal.

Here's what the original listing says about it:

The channel strip consists of three modules that make up a complete channel strip from a vintage 1976 EAG Hungarian broadcasting console. Each module is fully modular, discrete, and uses extremely high-quality components. The sound and build quality are top-tier and comparable to the most sought-after pieces of that era (TAB, WSW, Siemens, etc)

Each racked unit consists of three modules:

1. Fully discrete transformer balanced microphone preamp with 3-postion high pass filter

2. Fully discrete 3-band inductor-based EQ w/ 3-position high and low cut filters

3. Fully discrete transformer balanced output amplifier

THE PREAMP:

The Preamp has 72 dB of gain, a low-cut filter, phantom power, and uses a toroidal input transformer. The output fader uses a discrete step stroke, like the Painton faders used in vintage EMI consoles. This preamp has an incredibly musical and colored sound that cuts through beautifully in a mix.

THE EQUALIZER:

The Equalizer is completely discrete and uses five large inductors for the equalization. It has 3 boost/cut bands: a high shelf at 12.5 KHz, a selectable mid-frequency (700, 1K, 1.4K, 2K, 2.8K, 4K) with a wide-Q bell curve, and a low shelf at 63 Hz, It also has a great sounding high-cut filter (12.5K, 8K, 5K) and low-cut filter (180, 250, 500) that interacts beautifully with the shelving EQs, creating similar EQ curve effects to a Pultec design. The EQ truly sounds fantastic, with a very tight and impactful low end, a natural and musical mid-band, and a magically smooth top end that is reminiscent and comparable to EQs costing 5-10 times more. By setting the preamp at its lowest gain setting, you can send a line level input to use the EQ during the mixing stage.

THE OUTPUT AMPLIFIER:

The third module is a transformer balanced output amplifier that adds 6 to 24 dB of additional output gain for up to 96 dB of gain with the preamp. The output level control can be set with a 4-step rotary switch on the back of the unit for +6, +12, +18, +24dB. The three modules make up a complete channel strip, so you get the original signal path of the console.

These modules are fully serviced and recapped, and were very carefully professionally racked in a custom wooden enclosure with built-in power supply (110/220v) that also provides +48 volt phantom power for condenser microphones.

The EAG brand is not well known because Hungary was a closed off and isolated country during the Soviet era that manufactured in very limited quanties and did not export outside of the USSR. Because of this, there is little information left about the origin and history of EAG, but it is rumored that in the EAG plant was built in Budapest by Telefunken in the 1950’s.
