Vintage Washburn B-16 5-String Banjo c. 1980 – Hardshell Case – Beautiful Figured Wood

Vintage Washburn 5-string resonator banjo, believed to be a B-16 dating to approximately 1980. A substantial, beautifully made older Washburn with highly figured wood, ornate fingerboard inlays, bound neck and heavy traditional banjo hardware.

The interior carries the G.B. George Washburn label. See pics.

This is a very loud, solid-feeling instrument with a lot of character. I’ve owned it as an older/vintage instrument and am selling it in its present condition rather than having it professionally serviced before sale.

Condition / important details:

● Currently missing one string and will need a fresh set of strings.

● Needs a setup before regular playing. I have not attempted to adjust the action, bridge position, head tension, coordinator rods or neck.

● Tuners and hardware are present as pictured.

● Normal cosmetic wear, oxidation/tarnish and signs of age are present. Please examine the photographs closely.

● I am not representing every replaceable component as factory original. The Remo head, for example, is a replacement/consumable component.

● I am not aware of any major structural damage. The instrument feels extremely substantial and solid.

● Model and year are based on the information available to me and are listed as B-16 / circa 1980 rather than guaranteed specifications.

Includes the pictured vintage hardshell case with red plush interior. The case shows age and wear but has done its job protecting the instrument.

The figured wood on the resonator is particularly attractive and changes considerably depending on the light. The fingerboard also has extensive decorative inlay work that gives this banjo a much more elaborate appearance than an entry-level instrument.

I’m intentionally selling it without having a modern setup performed, allowing the next owner to choose strings and have the instrument adjusted to his or her playing preferences.
