At its core, the Colour Duo provides two clean, low-noise microphone preamps with up to 66 dB of gain. Each channel includes 48V phantom power, an 80 Hz high-pass filter, polarity reverse, and a -20 dB pad. The stepped controls make settings easy to recall and are especially useful when recording stereo pairs.

WHAT MAKES THE COLOUR DUO DIFFERENT

Each channel has three Colour slots—six slots total—that accept DIYRE's swappable analog Colour cards. Those cards can add transformer character, tape-style saturation, compression, EQ, distortion, or other processing. Each stage has its own bypass and drive/level control, so the unit can operate as a transparent dual preamp or as a customized pair of channel strips.

The line inputs also let the Colour Duo process previously recorded tracks, stereo buses, keyboards, drum machines, or other line-level sources. A trim stage and wet/dry blend make it possible to match levels and apply parallel processing.

Official specifications include a 24 kΩ line-input impedance, maximum line-input level of +27.5 dBu, maximum output of +22 dBu, and a frequency response of ±0.2 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
