I purchased this violin used in 1982 for $300 and played it for a period before moving primarily to guitar. It has not been played regularly in many years and is being sold as an older, used instrument that should receive a professional inspection and setup before regular use.
The violin has an attractive two-piece figured maple back and traditional amber-brown finish. It shows considerable honest playwear, including:
- Fingerboard surface wear from use
- Finish loss and wear around the chin-rest area
- A localized edge chip on the treble-side lower bout
- Additional small nicks, scuffs and finish wear consistent with age and use
I have not observed an obvious major body crack, but the violin has not recently been inspected by a luthier. The bridge, tailpiece, chin rest, pegs and strings are present. The strings are older, and the buyer should anticipate routine servicing or setup as needed.
INCLUDED:
- William Lewis & Son Model 100 full-size 4/4 violin, serial No. 00708
- Original Glasser bow; currently without usable hair and requires rehairing
- Replacement Glasser bow in good usable-looking condition; one loose/broken hair strand
- Original fitted William Lewis hard case
CASE CONDITION:
The original case is included in fair condition. Its carrying handle and mounting hardware pulled away from the shell, leaving visible mounting holes, so the case must currently be carried from underneath. The exterior also has an old localized impact dent with torn covering. The shell, fitted interior and latches remain present and functional.
This is a complete vintage outfit with extensive honest wear. It is not represented as freshly serviced or concert-ready and is sold in the condition shown. Please review all photographs carefully for cosmetic and case condition.
