This is a used 1994 Gibson Earl Scruggs '49 Classic. This model has its roots in the Gibson Granada that Earl Scruggs used for many years starting around 1949. Earl's own Granada underwent various changes to the neck, finish, and hardware over time, and the '49 Classic was produced to resemble the specifications of the period when it featured bowtie inlays. This guitar features a striking 1-piece curly maple neck and resonator with a beautiful grain, a 3-ply maple rim, a tone ring replaced with a Blaylock J.D. Crowe model, a rosewood fingerboard with mother-of-pearl bowtie inlays, a 1-piece flange, nickel hardware, spikes at the 7th, 9th, and 10th frets, and the original Keith tuners for the 2nd and 3rd strings, which have been replaced with standard tuners. A Hopper old-style cam tuner has been installed, allowing for speedy tuning changes similar to Earl's guitars. The 5th string has been replaced with a 5-Star tuner. The tailpiece is the original Presto. The truss rod cover has been replaced with a solid pearl cover. The original Scrugs nameplate cover is also included. A custom-made aluminum box can be mounted above the 2nd and 3rd strings to conceal the cam tuner. This is a replica of the box attached to the headstock of the banjo with the bowtie inlay seen in Earl's famous promotional photos, a collector's item that will bring a smile to the face of any Earl fan. The guitar exhibits the characteristic tarnishing of nickel parts, scratches on the resonator, and overall weather checking, giving it a well-worn, aged appearance.
