One incredible piece of history from Kalamazoo, MI. It pains me to sell her but such is life. Do yourself a favor and do not pass on this beast of a guitar, she is a Rock-n-Roll machine!

First to note, there are no cracks, repairs, or broken anything, she is in excellent shape for pushing 70 years of age.

Details: there are a few items that are not original to the guitar but they are vintage in nature.

  • The tuning keys were replaced with first year metal button Klusons from '63/'64, they are incredibly tight and accurate.
  • The Bigsby is from late 1950, early 1960 and is absolutely a perfect fit for this guitar. It replaced the long trapeze wraptail, which was a solid upgrade.
  • The guitar will come with two bridges. When I bought the guitar it came with a vintage style Gibson/Gretsch compensated metal bridge with rosewood base (in the case) its a good bridge and works fine but I chose to source a period correct archtop style tune-o-matic with nylon saddles from StewMac - it's incredible and intonates perfectly.
  • The vintage tuners, vintage bridge, and vintage bigsby were all professionally installed in the early to mid-60s, so quite some time ago, and as a result it's about as natural a fit as one could hope for.
  • Hard-shell case is a modern era brown Gibson ES-335 style case and fits perfectly.
  • Upon purchasing the guitar, it did not come with the original pickguard, so I took my time and sourced a 1956 ES-225 pickguard from a trust worthy vintage dealer on Reverb, it was not cheap but it's a solid fit that worked out well.

Now on to all the original specs & appointments - which is by far the most important part! All items have been blacklit and verified as original.

  • Truss rod cover
  • Nylon nut
  • Frets - decent life left on the frets and the action is low and tight all the way up.
  • Brazilian board with minimal pitting which is awesome.
  • Catalin switch tip
  • Knobs
  • Bumble-bee caps
  • Potentiometers - date code on pots specifies 1953
  • P90 pickups are original, well balanced, and they are out of this world.!!
  • Neck P90 = 7.81 Bridge P90 = 8.9
  • Neck profile is quintessential 1957 - its chunky with a perfectly rounded profile, yet not too fat.
  • 0.97 at the first fret and 1.05 at the 12th

The guitar is magical and packed with all kinds of golden era mojo! The playability on the entire fretboard is incredible and the intonation is spot-on. The guitar needs nothing besides your preferred string gauge. Feel free to ask any questions and I will try to post more detailed photos here shortly.

Thanks!
