Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome.

You are looking at a very rare variant of the classic Shure 585SB that I didn't even know existed until now. This is the 586SB Dynamic cardioid microphone that was the last of the 585 series It was introduced in late 1982 or early 1983 and sold for just 3 years before being discontinued. The microphone comes with the Shure mic clip shown as well as the new Auray brand exterior pop filter for improved sound performance.

Pic # 2 is from a catalog I have showing all of the 585 series mics performance characteristics. The 586SB looked similar to the 585SB with the exception of the XLR cable attachment and it had an upgraded element.

This mic was eventually discontinued by 1986 so it's run was short but it was a superior model to the 686SB in every way.

The 585 series was a bread butter mic for Shure Brothers. They sold possibly tens of thousands of these during the 1960's and 70's as they were rugged, reliable, practical and provided a very clean sound. A mic that could be used for general broadcasting, singing and was even used as a harp mic by many musicians using the 585SA high impedance version. A real workhorse with excellent uni-directional characteristics.

Shure sold the 585SB model that utilized the older Amphenol type connection that used the outdated cable to operate. Apparently Shure Brothers decided to build the 585SB with the modern and practical XLR connection and upgraded element so they renamed the mic the 586SB. Again, I was not even aware of this model but here it is. Super rare and this one is pretty dang nice looking as well. If you want a real conversation piece and a mic that only a handful of people own then this 586SB will do nicely.

The mic is actually more of a mid range tone and if you get right up on the front grill it produces a bit more bass. It's a lovely sounding mic with true and tried Shure reliability.

This mic has a grey painted handle with the classic 585SB chrome type front grill but the label is more modern in style and it's perfectly legible. Just a few scuff marks and scratches on the handle but the chrome globe is free of any tarnish, dents or odors. I had to replace the inner foam pop filters and for added performance the new Auray exterior black foam pop filter is included. It fit the mic like a glove and you can really lean into the mic with it on there. Looks great too.

The XLR pins were cleaned to get a perfect signal once a standard XLR cable is attached.

This 585SA comes with a nice newer Shure A-25 model clip that works excellent for this mic giving the user a wide degree of tilt up and down and holds the mic firmly. The clip shows zero wear and will screw onto any mic stand.

This will make a very nice mic to use on the daily. Again, a very special and rare model that will hold it's value nicely.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.

Overall I would rate this mic physically an 8 on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department though some would rate higher. Made right here in America and built to last!

As with all my vintage microphone and related items...
