Here's a lovely Mitchell travel guitar that has been converted into an eight-string instrument. Depending on the strings, tuning and musical style it can now be played as an octave mandolin, bouzouki, mandola, double-strung tenor or plectrum guitar, double-strung steel string baritone ukulele, or even just a regular six-string. Presently these are set up in "Octave mandolin" tuning, GDAE, with bass strings octaved like on a 12-string guitar.
I can replace with the octaved bass strings with paired strings if you prefer before shipping at no charge, or set up the instrument differently upon request after purchase for $25.
The underlying guitar is an excellent travel model with a solid spruce top and arched laminate back. It's in lightly used condition, excellent structurally, with appropriate neck angle and action, a ton of saddle height, and a working dual action truss rod. Please note however that this instrument has various cosmetic imperfections, particularly small dings, scrapes and scratches, or finish chips as shown.
The conversion process entailed, among other steps, resizing tuner holes, fitting additional tuners, replacing tuners, cutting and leveling the nut, leveling the saddle, adding four bridge pin holes in the correct positions, and exploring various setups to optimize each configuration. The original bridge pin holes and in many cases the original nut slots are retained, so it can be played with six-strings as well.
Ships fast, well protected, and fully insured, in a basic gig bag.
By the way, I'm happy to do a similar conversion on your instrument, either something you already own or a model you buy new for the purpose. Not all acoustic guitars can easily accommodate the extra pins and tuners, but many can. Shoot me a message or visit wisterialutherie.com/conversions if you're interested!
