Vintage 1980 14x8 Coliseum slotted snare drum. 12 Lug. Original Imperial hoops, P-85 strainer, original. Chicago-era badge.
The Ludwig Slotted Coliseum Snare Drum is a legendary, high-volume 14" x 8" powerhouse famous for its unique open-slot center venting system, which delivers immense projection and dry, articulate attack. Originally introduced in wood during the 1980s.
The horizontal slot cut entirely through the center of the shell drastically reduces air resistance. When struck, air escapes instantly, causing the snare wires to respond with hyper-sensitive crispness while eliminating muddy overtones. The wood version offers stadium-shaking warmth. Same model played by Alex Van Halen.
Unmatched Projection: The physical cut-out gap in the shell lets air escape instantly, giving it a lightning-fast head response.
High Volume Crack: It delivers an incredibly loud, cutting rimshot without losing the low-end body of a deep wood or heavy aluminum shell.
Extreme Tuning Range: Drummers love it because it can be tuned down for a fat, wet "gush" or cranked high while keeping its deep resonance.
