Vintage 20” Avedis Zildjian ride from the 1970s stamp era. 2246 grams — a genuine medium weight. Enough weight for clean stick definition & enough give to open up when you let into it.

How I dated it:

I didn’t guess. I measured & researched thoroughly:

• Stamp height 31.4mm

• ZILDJIAN Co is taller than AVEDIS but not bold. The words have the same fine lettering, lathe lines visible through the letters. That’s the defining 70s “Thin Stamp” trait and the cleanest way to separate it from the 50s stamps.

I could’ve tried claiming late 1950s & run the price up on it, but I’m honest like that.

• No three dots in the Ottoman section

• Dot-dot-dash-dash present below the Ottoman & MADE IN U.S.A. - with periods.

One honest caveat: a Zildjian stamp tells you when a cymbal was stamped, not necessarily when it was made — dies overlapped in the factory for years. I’m calling this a 1970s stamp because that’s what the evidence supports.

Condition — Good rather than Very Good because of:

• Edge nick: a visible notch in the edge with slight deformation around it. Photographed close-up. Doesn’t affect how it plays, but I want you looking at it before you buy, not after.

• Center hole: light wear, slightly out of round. Early stage, not significant keyholing.

• No cracks or fractures.

• Honest, uncleaned patina. No ink logo — normal for the era.
