HISTORY OF THE NEUMANN U 67

First introduced in 1960 and designed to replace the Neumann U 47 as the company's flagship large-diaphragm condenser microphone, the U 67 tube condenser microphone quickly established itself as a studio workhorse. Praised by top studios and engineers around the world, the Neumann U 67 became a go-to mic for vocals, acoustic instruments, and more. Even as solid-state successors began to replace tube mics, the U 67’s reputation endured, and engineers continued to value its warmth and unmatched sound quality. Neumann’s 2018 reissue returned the U 67 to production with original specifications and updated manufacturing, continuing the legacy and making this classic tube condenser microphone accessible to modern studios.

LEGENDARY K 67 CAPSULE

A large part of the U 67’s signature sound is the K 67 capsule: a large-diaphragm pressure-gradient transducer tuned to provide a pleasing midrange and smooth, controlled high-end. The K 67 offers three selectable polar patterns: cardioid for front-focused capture with musical proximity effect, omnidirectional for a more "open" sound, and bidirectional (figure-8) for mid-side and Blumlein stereo techniques. Changing polar patterns is accomplished via a switch below the tapered headgrille rather than on the power supply.

AUTHENTIC EF86 TUBE

Equipped with carefully selected EF86 tubes, the Neumann U 67 tube microphone recreates the tube-driven harmonic character that gave the original its legendary warmth and presence.
