This is a 1974 Gibson® Les Paul® Custom in a stupid rare Tuxedo finish, Alpine White & Ebony. These guitars do not show up very often. While Gibson never released exact production numbers, we estimate that fewer than 50 were ever manufactured. Gibson has the serial number listed as 1974-75 and the CTS potentiometers date to the 51st week of 1972; ho ho ho.

The original Alpine White finish has aged beautifully into the coveted TV Yellow hue that vintage Alpine White Gibson® guitars are famous for. The guitar has plenty of bumps, bruises and honest wear throughout, as you would expect from an instrument that is now over 50 years old.

All of the electronics remain original, although the original humbucker covers had previously been removed. Unfortunately, we were sold out of our Aged Gold pickup covers during the restoration, so we were unable to reinstall them. We are currently manufacturing more. Once they are completed, we will send three brand-new Aged Gold replacement humbucker covers to the future owner.

The frets show some wear but still have plenty of life left. There is neck repair near the volute that has been well executed.

The guitar arrived as part of an estate and had five decades of playing, modifications and grime attached to it. We did what we do at the Norlin® Custom Shop: cleaned it up, preserved its original character and returned the non-original hardware as close to its original factory configuration as practical.

Newly Installed Hardware:

  • Advanced Plating® ABR-1 Bridge Post Thumbwheels
  • Norlin® Historic CAB Speed Knobs
  • Norlin® Historic Tailpiece Studs
  • Norlin® Pickguard Screws
  • Norlin® True Historic Catalin 3-Way Toggle Switch Tip

As part of our standard Norlin® Custom Shop restoration process, the guitar received a comprehensive deep cleaning, nitrocellulose polishing, fret polishing, fingerboard conditioning, electronic contact cleaning and a fresh set of Ernie Ball® Regular Slinky strings installed to factory specifications.

Get out your back brace. This quintessential Norlin® era Les Paul® weighs in at a whopping 10 lbs. 15.9 oz. Add the pickup covers and that's 11 pounds of vintage Gibson® goodness. Includes the original hard shell case. Shipping is a bit higher than normal due to the sheer weight of this beast. It's absurd.

The instrument has been stored in our digitally climate-controlled environment maintained at 45% relative humidity.

Like every instrument that passes through the Norlin® Custom Shop, this guitar has been professionally inspected under UV light for breaks, repairs, cracks and re-sprays. We believe in complete transparency and are always happy to answer questions or provide additional photographs upon request.

Please Note: This instrument is being sold as-is and is not eligible for returns. For your peace of mind, it will ship fully insured with Reverb Safe Shipping, providing protection in the unlikely event of shipping damage.
