Since the birth of the first 14-fret joint model in 1934, the D-18 has been a traditional model that has maintained its style for several generations, standing alongside the D-28 as a legendary instrument. This particular instrument is a 2011 "D-18SQ". It features a spruce top, mahogany sides and back, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, Grover silver tuners, pearl dot fingerboard inlays, square truss rod, and non-scalloped X-bracing. While adjustable truss rods are now the mainstream, the square truss rod, which minimizes the hollow space inside the neck and allows the entire instrument to vibrate, maintains a strong following. There is a repaired crack on the low about side of the 6th string, and other minor scratches and scuffs, but it has only slight signs of use and maintains a relatively clean appearance.
