G&L USA Fullerton S-500 1996 - ORANGE

Manufactured in 1996.

We’ve received the S-500, the flagship model from G&L (USA).

It is considered the culmination of solid-body guitars, featuring a groundbreaking mechanism into which Leo Fender poured all the expertise he had cultivated at Fender and Music Man.

While retaining the classic ash body and maple neck combination, it incorporates state-of-the-art features of the time, such as MFD (Magnetic Field Design) pickups, a Dual-Fulcrum vibrato, the PTB tone system, and Sperzel locking tuners.

The MFD pickups deliver the power of P-90s or Jazzmasses while maintaining low noise.

The Dual-Fulcrum vibrato offers smooth action.

In addition to the PTB Tone System, which allows independent control of treble and bass, it features an Expander Switch.

Along with the standard 5-way pickup selector, it offers versatile tone-shaping options, such as combining F and R, or turning all pickups on.

With this single guitar, you can recreate the tones of the TL and ST models Leo himself built in the past.

The Expander Switch (Mini SW) functions as a standard 5-way selector when OFF (F, F+C, C, C+R, R),

but when ON, it allows you to select from F+R, F+C+R, C, F+C+R, and F+R

from the top of the selector—a total of 7 different sounds—so you’ll never be at a loss, no matter the musical situation.

While there are some minor scratches consistent with its age, it’s in excellent playing condition.

The neck is currently straight. The truss rod operates smoothly, and the frets are flat with 70% of their original height remaining—no uneven wear on either side.

You’ll be able to enjoy this guitar for quite some time without needing maintenance.

G&L, which closed its Fullerton, California factory in 2025 to much regret, effectively marked the end of the brand.
