An exceptionally rare and visually striking piece from the early years of the Fender Custom Shop: a 1994 Fender Custom Shop Chrome Stratocaster featuring a chambered/semi-hollow aluminum body finished in chrome.
Introduced during the John Page era of the Custom Shop, these Chrome Strats are dramatically different from a conventional Stratocaster. Rather than a wooden body with a metallic finish, the body is constructed from aluminum and chrome plated, giving the guitar its unmistakable mirror-like appearance and a unique resonance and character.
The guitar features a beautifully figured maple neck with a black-painted headstock, dark fingerboard, black anodized Custom Shop pickguard, three Fender single-coil pickups, and two-point tremolo. Other documented 1994 examples show the same distinctive configuration.
These guitars appear only infrequently on the market. Documented examples date back to at least 1993, with early examples associated with the introduction of Fender's aluminum-bodied Stratocasters, and Chrome Custom Shop examples continued to appear later in the decade.
This example is in exceptionally clean condition, particularly impressive considering how unforgiving a chrome-plated surface can be. It includes its original Fender tweed hardshell case and Fender Custom Shop Certificate of Authenticity.
A remarkable piece of early Fender Custom Shop history and one of the most unusual Stratocasters Fender ever produced.
