Drawn to a late-70s Stratocaster but held back by the assumption that it's "just heavy" and "hard to play"?
This 1977 natural-finish Stratocaster is, in many ways, the fully realized form of that era. It carries the full set of changes that define the 70s: the 3-bolt neck introduced in late 1971, flat pole pieces from late '74, and the black hardware that came in from mid-'77 onward.
The body is heavyweight ash, with total weight over 4kg. The mass behind that gives the single-coil tone a sharp edge and a powerful presence when driven. Clean tones are firm and taut, and with gain the midrange pushes forward, making this a natural fit for hard rock.
It has also had its frets and nut replaced and the fingerboard refinished, so despite being vintage it remains fully practical to play. Beyond its period looks, having it set up to actually perform on stage or in the studio is a major plus.
Rugged late-70s looks paired with an aggressive tone born from that extra weight. Come experience the distinct character this era of Stratocaster brings to the table.
