"I want a true collector's piece and a genuinely playable Fender Custom Shop Relic with real history and an overwhelming resonance." "But today's Relic work can't quite capture that period-correct feel, or the rich, three-dimensional overtones of a great acoustic instrument."

Looking for a Stratocaster that goes beyond a mere replica — one with a class of its own in both presence and tone?

In 1995, Fender Custom Shop's legendary Relic Series began. In its earliest years, from 1995 to 1999, all Relic aging work was outsourced to the legendary craftsman Vince Cunetto.

Examples from this so-called "Cunetto Era" of early Relics are becoming rarer on the market every year. And to find one overseen by John Cruz — who would go on to become a legendary Master Builder — is a truly rare stroke of luck.

This guitar captures both the romance of the Custom Shop's golden era and its finest acoustic character, in one remarkable instrument. A late-1990s Cunetto Era Fender Custom Shop 1960 Relic Stratocaster in Burgundy Mist, stamped on the back of the neck by John Cruz himself. A one-of-a-kind guitar with a story and spec sheet to stir any vintage fan or player's heart.

This example carries Vince Cunetto's early-style Relic work, made only during that brief 1995-1999 window. Its natural, realistic weather-checking and aging give it an aura that today's models simply can't replicate.

A rare piece overseen during the period when John Cruz — who would create so many legendary instruments as a Master Builder — was building. The John Cruz stamp on the back of the neck is proof of its exceptional quality.

Finished in the elegant Burgundy Mist, this guitar's tasteful, understated character comes from the combination of Cunetto's Relic work and roughly 30 years of aging — never flashy, but full of depth.

It produces a rich, enveloping overtone character and three-dimensional tone reminiscent of a fine acoustic guitar. Whichever pickup position you choose — front, middle, or rear — it delivers a rich character that never gets lost in the mix, putting it a class above other Stratocasters.

Where the historically significant Cunetto Era meets the lineage of top Master Builder John Cruz, this guitar's wood has now had roughly 30 years to fully open up and resonate. Beyond its value as a collector's piece, it's ready to perform on stage or in the studio as a genuinely unique instrument.

The origin point and pinnacle of Fender Relics. A chance to own that enveloping, three-dimensional overtone and truly sublime feel, from the very first note.
