About this listing
PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION SEE VIDEO AND PICS!For sale is an AKAI GX 77 6 head 4 track auto reverse Reel to Reel tape deck recorder. It is in good to very good condition albeit with some minor scuffs and marks as shown. Refer to pics. It has been tested and the heads were cleaned and demagnetized for the best sound ever. I did clean the unit up the best of my ability although it’s still not perfect The mic inputs were tested and they work as well as the other inputs. The pots and switches were sprayed and the metal parts were lubed as well. Both channels work good as well. This unit uses the DC motors which means when the supply or take up real, starts to get full rewind or fast-forward gradually slows down near the end, which is considered a manufacturing “quirk” from AKAI. The sound when recording at 3 3/4 IPS is very clear and better and wider sounding than the Source recording from, depending on the type of tape used and even better at 7 1/2 IPS. The heads are also in very good shape which is obviously why the quality is awesome as well. PURCHASE AT FULL PRICE AND GET 2 METAL REELS AND SOME TAPES!IMPORTANT NOTE:As an online seller of 22 years, I can say for certain the selling environment has changed significantly. Aside from the ever increasing selling costs, advertising costs, inventory costs among other things, people nowadays don’t seem to be willing to negotiate in good faith on a price that them and the seller can agree on. That used to be a thing years ago. Everyone would go back-and-forth until they found a price They could both agree on and then they would walk away happy. That, unfortunately no longer seems to be the case. Now, it appears people add items to the watchlist and shopping carts hoping to pressure a seller into reducing the price rather than making an effort to negotiate. I consider this type of behavior disrespectful considering this is my livelihood, how I pay the bills, put food on the table and how I find and offer more of these great units. I have made EVERY possible attempt to be fair with my prices. Many people who think the prices are “too expensive” don’t take into consideration the quality, the cosmetics, the cost of parts, labor, and how much time it takes to repair and restore these units to ensure they arrive working like they are supposed to (hence the reason I am unable to offer repair services to the public because of all the work it takes to restore these units, aside from the fact that I do not have the room to take in other people’s units), as well as the years of experience. I also invest a good amount of money in industrial strength bubblewrap, insulated foam and the correct size boxes is to ensure these unit units arrive safely in one piece and that is included in the shipping costs.Another thing people don’t seem to understand is regardless of how much time money and labor is put into restoring these units, at the end of the day they are decades-old electronics, thus I could never guarantee they will not develop issues in the distant future. It’s just common sense. In today’s society, I have learned that no matter how hard you try, sometimes there is just no appeasing everyone And It has created an enormous amount of stress for me.For that reason and everything else being said, I am reconsidering offering more reel to reel tape decks in the future. I’m not saying I’m going to stop offering them and I’m not saying I’m going to continue offering them, but I will be taking a good hard look at where things stand. I love restoring and reselling these tape decks and the awesome quality of them, but It is absolutely impossible to function as a business when no one can come to a mutual agreement on things as well as the time and costs of finding, restoring and selling them and when people mistaken an online e-commerce store for their personal playground or digital art exhibit. That being said, I have reduced the price on this deck to move. Once purchase is made, I will be filming a pre-shipment video tutorial as well as pictures of the packing before it is mailed out.
