This past summer, Graham Coxon—the guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter who first became prominent as a founding member and lead guitarist of Blur—announced his first North American solo tour. His first solo album, The Sky Is Too High, dates back to 1998, and since then he's released a total of eight solo studio records, as well as live albums, singles, and compositional work.
Coxon's tour kicked off in Toronto back in late September before seeing the musician travel across the States. A couple of stops in, Coxon hit Chicago, where Andy Martin had a chance to catch up with the musician he considers one of his own top influences.
Andy and Coxon's conversation was far-ranging: from why Coxon prefers to record all of the instruments on his solo records himself to his experience getting into looping during live shows. Coxon also treated us to a short acoustic set of his music in between questions.
