The Platypus Octidrive MkII is a boutique pedal designed by Jeorge Tripps that combines the warm, dynamic overdrive of the legendary Red Llama with a frequency doubler that generates an upper octave. Unlike most octave fuzz pedals, it can produce everything from a thick overdrive to an aggressive octave fuzz, textures reminiscent of a ring modulator, or even sitar-like tones when played near the bridge. It features Drive, Volume, and Hi-Cut controls (the latter added on this MkII version for improved treble control), operates in true bypass, and is powered by 9V DC with a current draw of approximately 6mA. Reissued in 2018 in a compact format, it is prized for its highly original character, its sensitivity to single-note playing, and its tones ranging from vintage rock to experimental psychedelia.
