AVAILABLE ON OR BEFORE AUGUST 15 2026Thank Y'All for your continued enthusiasm ! Happy to say we've recently purchased a few very clean,low use Akai Preamps that will make excellent restorations. The "On or Before" thing seems to work out quite well. We've been shipping appx 1 week earlier than due date.The extra time is for " Murphy and The Fudge" Now on to the fun stuff....These preamps are excellent examples of Japan's re-entry into Hi Quality Hi Tech Electronics post WW II. The electronics are A+ engineered ,and used very high quality  components. This is enough to seriously amp a very low output ribbon,quietly !.If you want to really hear how the ribbons are SUPPOSED to sound- You're gonna need to use a transformer into a tube type preamp. This was the original intended design! Signal flow 101. Here's what they can do.These AKAI Preamps have three inputs #1,-"MIC IN is Hi Z great for harp mics,awesome for TUBE DI,( Instrument Direct).# 2- ,LINE IN" Great for Keyboards, Synths,Hot Efx.Insert Loop #3- "MIC IN" with supplied Lo to Hi Z matching transformer suits all L0 Z pro (XLR Type Mics This preamp will give you that "big,open sound" you've been looking for with little or no e.q. Any mic transformer plugged in to "Mic In" can make it Lo Z for pro studio mics.Choose your favourite flavour! Check out the scope waveforms.  Input is <14 mv (millivolts) ,that of an anemic vintage ribbon mic. Pix shows perfect sine wave output (no distortion) at line level,1.414 volts.So- 60db+ ! Second pix shows intentionally clipped almost square wave .Input cranked,output padded....for all the harmonic distortion you can dream up! This is what compressed to squash looks like ! We've recently added a continuously variable-20db pad to the output.This allows cranking the input for that "tube sweetspot"-and also affords a bit of tube compression So- this preamp has that beautiful "open" Tube Essence...with ball Z! The "Black Diamond Midnight" Finished Matching Case is also included .
