This listing is for a vintage 1957 Slingerland model # 154 "Super Radio King" snare drum.
This drum has a wooden, solid-maple 1-ply shell that measures 5-1/2" deep x 14" wide and is wrapped in a paper-thin covering called "knotty pine lacquer". Basically, a painted-on coating, designed to imitate real authentic knotty pine. As you can see from my pictures, is that the knotty pine finish really looks great, but there are a number of small chips in the extremely fragile outer layer.
This drum is factory equipped with eight die-cast "Sound King" lugs, 16 Slingerland tension rods, a Slingerland internal muffler assembly, two Slingerland solid-brass "stick-saver" hoops and a pair of Slingerland "Clamshell" strainer housings. All of the metal parts are nicely chrome plated and look great!
The top "batter" hoop is seriously dented along the top edge, near the back of the shell.
A brand new replacement clamshell release lever has been installed on the throwoff side of mechanism. As a result, the mechanism works perfectly and locks the snares in place easily and positively.
Newer Remo Ambassador heads have been installed on this drum, but the original Slingerland clamshell wires are in place. The factory original wires are in need of replacing.
