Yamaha SA50T 1969

This is a Yamaha SA50T from 1969 SA stands för Super Axe and the T stands för Tremolo. The SA50T was the upper market version with block inlays and binding. This guitar is full of cool little nifty tricks, making it very modern for its time indeed. The body is a thin, fully hollow body with rails running down the length under the bridge/pickup mounts. This gives it a very rich, warm and acoustic-like tone and Yamaha added specially designed plastic baffles inside the F-holes to trap air and reduce unwanted feedback. Another cool thing is the wiring, it has a standard 3 way toggle, master volume and tone control but with the added versatility of a "Balance" pot which blends between the two pickups when in the middle toggle position. This gives an endless array of tones from this seemingly simple set up. Yamaha made all of their hardware and electronics in house, so these pickups aren't available in other brands. They're are loud and clear but not with too much output. The guitar also feature a zero fret and a Yamaha tremolo tailpiece system. The tuners are newer kluson style tulips.

The guitar is in fantastic condition for its age. It has seen a fair share of use, as evident by the fretwear, but have been serviced recently for a professional musician. It is very easy to play and sounds fantastic.

This guitar model was produced between 1967-1972 and this particular guitar is dated to the late 70’s because they switched from using nylon/plastic roller bridges to metallic rollers in mid-1969.
