Gibson Explorer - 120th Anniversary Limited Edition.
This has been sitting for 2 months now on Reverb. I don't think ppl realize how special this axe is for ANY Explorer model. The 2014 - 120th Anniversary Limited Edition Explorer was only made for 1 year . . . 2014. It was built in Nashville TN
You will not see the features this Limited Edition 120th Anniversary has on any Explorer for under $2K. Just a note (if you should look at other year\models Explorer) know that any Solid color Explorer guitars are only painted by Gibson to hide flaws in the wood, period. Gibson takes a lot of pride in the wood it buys and crafts and wants to show it whenever possible. So why would they ever cover with solid, opaque colors? Hummmm. . . .Moving on.
I'm not offened by lowball offers but if you can; please understand that any Explorer with a bound neck, MOP Gibson Logo, Grade A Mahogany body and Grade A Mahogany neck is not a $1,100-$1,500 Explorer. Find any Explorer made of REAL Wood, solid 1 piece Rosewood fretboard, neck binding and any type of custom logo fret marker (120th Anniversay-if you can find one) they start at over $2,000 and up. You can look right here on Reverb if you think I'm selling a line of BS. Run of the mill\off the shelf Explorers are also asking $2,000.00 and up which in IMHO is insane.
I believe that my price is reasonable for a rare example of a Gibson Explorer that includes original Gibson hard shell case, free shipping, Custom Hand Sprayed in Cherry Laquer pickups with far more punch and clarity than the original Gibson PUs, plus a Custom color matched Italia 4" strap (with locks installed), and JAT Custom color matched Cherry speed knobs; All included; is a lot of bang for your buck at my asking price. I agree not everyone will think my Axe is all that, if that is true, I respect your opinion.
This is not a threat of any kind, it's just the truth; If it does not sell here in a few more weeks I'm more than happy to take it down as I do and I have loved this axe for many years. This is why I said I will take it down; Reverb says to sell This guitar here for a hard and fast sell, I'd have to sell it for $1,300 - 1,500. Forgive me but that suggested selling price is an insult. Again, I'm not giving it away! I though for sure that Reverb, of all the guitar selling venues, would know the difference from a stock, Off-The-Shelf - run of the mill Explorer; is not the same as a 120th Year Limited Edition, 1 year only Explorer. The guitar has been listed for 2 months and I have yet to recieve an offer I would even consider. I'm not interested in selling fast or a hard sell. That's not my way.
I have many years of my own work into this guitar as well as warranty work completed at Gibson. My sweat and hard work and knowledge as a luthier as well as doing hundreds of guitar setups, customizations and repairs are worth the extra few hundred $$$ alone.
This axe has been well cared for and handled with the utmost care by me, stage crew, studio cartage companies and guitar Techs at live shows. For the model year of 2014, yes it has some but very few: swirls, some very light scratches but no buckle rash and almost no dents or chips larger than a penil point or smaller. I believe this speaks for itself for a guitar that's 12 years old and and is played regulary at both live shows and in the studio. This is why I gave it a "Very Good" rating for condition. I believe it to be 9/10.
Now onto the Gibson published specs . . . .
- The Gibson AD from 2014 . . . 120th Anniversary Limited Edition Explorer:
Gibson Explorer 120th Anniversary Limited Edition (Explorer 120) is a limited-edition solidbody electric guitar released by Gibson in 2014 to celebrate the company's 120th anniversary.
The Explorer 120 begins with a Grade-A mahogany body cut to the angular profile of this trend-setting axe. The glued-in Grade-A neck is carved to the fast, slim profile that so many rockers love, with a bound one-piece Grade-A rosewood fingerboard with frets over binding and dot inlays. The traditional "droopy" six-a-side headstock has a mother-of-pearl Gibson logo, and there's a commemorative "120th Anniversary" banner at the 12th fret.
A chrome Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece partner with Mini Grover tuners for solid sustain and efficient tune ups. The Explorer 120 is finished with hand-sprayed high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer and comes protected in an elegant brown hardshell case.
NOTE: I've added pictures that show the Explorer's wood in the sun so you can see the the grain of the Grade A Mahogany and larger pictures of the guitar features in general.
Below is my description of my modification(s) and the products I used to provide transparency for the buyer:
Vintage tones are privided by Guitarheads Lumberbucker pickups which have been sprayed in the original cherry nitro laquer to match the body. The reason for the PU swap was the original Gibson PUs had too much "Quack" and not enough "Balls and Bite" for me and the music I write. The LumberBuckers deliver beautiful clean tones and Hi Gain tones that growl and cut like a razor blade!
I have also added "JAT CUSTOM GUITAR PARTS" (can be found right here on Reverb) custom made knobs to match the guitars color scheme (Clear\White and Cherry (3) speed knobs - $45.00 value) to further make this axe stand out in a crowd but If you don't like them, it originaly came with Black high-hat knobs which I have and will change them out before shipping, just let me know at the time of purchase.
Further Note on LumberBucker Pickups for transparency to the buyer:
The GuitarHeads Lumberbucker pickups are constructed with bobbins topped with real wood, and have an overall tone based off of the Vintage PAF Pickups of the late 1950's. However this modern version has much more output & hotter feel due to the added midrange bite. The warm traditional glassy tone comes from the Alnico V Magnet, and each pickup is Wax Potted for Microphonic Suppression. These pickups also feature a 5 Conductor Lead, allowing you to Tap the Coils for alternate wiring.
